THE HISTORY HANDRAIL

The names of 200,000 migrants will be engraved on 800 metres of magnificently sculpted stainless steel handrail. This represents a unique opportunity to record the names of your family and friends forever in our Nation's capital.

Everyone will be able to stroll across the Bridge reading the names, countries of origin and years of arrival of those migrants. There will be a map available to help you find the names of family and friends.

We invite all Australians to submit the names of the original migrants amongst their family and friends for engraving. Money raised from the History Handrail Program will go towards the Bridge’s construction.

Names will be organised under the year of arrival in Australia. We realise for some the most difficult aspect of this family research is finding the exact year of arrival. In such cases the approximate year can be indicated with the letter c before the year. If subsequent research reveals the exact year, we have the capacity to make alterations upon instruction.

Reserve a name place as a Gift - a special gift idea for family & friends

A name place in perpetuity on the History Handrail - a gift with a difference! Remember, it can be a record of their name or that of their ancestors.

How do I reserve a name place on the History Handrail?

All migrants past and present who have come to settle permanently in Australia are eligible to have their names and countries of origin recorded in perpetuity on this national monument.

A charge of $110 (including GST) is payable for each name.

Anyone wishing to nominate either themselves or another migrant should search the master list of places purchased to ensure that no-one has already made the same selection. SEARCH THE MASTER LIST HERE
