Countries so far: The countries listed are those named by people reserving places on the History Handrail. You'll see that the names of some countries have changed or the countries themselves have ceased to exist -yet another fascinating aspect of this wonderful project in its recording of Australia's migrant history.
As the registrations have been pouring in, it has been difficult to keep up with the additional countries that immigrants have come from - I now try to set the record straight! The following are to the best of my knowledge the first from these countries.
Clovis Mwamba, Congo 2007 on Air France; Ferit Ymer, Albania 1938 on board the NM Viminale; Maritza Tein, Venezuela 1990; S. Stoke, Puerto Rico, 1969; Geoffrey Acton, Nyasaland, 1995; the Roberts Family, Georgia, Michaela, Jacqueline and Shane, Zimbabwe, 2001;Benjamin Thiedeman, Ceylon, 1961;Annie Gosling, Vanuatu, c1881; Antoine Schultz, Senegal, 1972; William Simpson, Jamaica 1877.
I have named some other countries from which migrants have come in numbers but have yet to register on the History Handrail. If you know anybody from that background, whatever time they or their ancestors came to Australia, please let them know about the project. Target countries are listed below the table with the existing 138.
Number of countries so far = 138
Target Countries - I will have to start adding some more, won't I!
