The following eminent Australians have most recently accepted our invitation to be Honorary Ambassadors for the Immigration Bridge. (Full list below)
Dr Sev Ozdowski OAM is a former Australian Human Rights Commissioner who is currently Director, Equity & Diversity, University of Western Sydney, and Associate Professor, Centre of Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of Sydney. Sev migrated from Poland in 1975, and is perhaps best known for his ground-breaking report "National Inquiry into Children in Immigration Detention: A Last Resort?" produced during his five years as Human Rights Commissioner. It sparked a national debate which led to the release of children from mandatory detention.
Ian Kiernan AO is well known to Australians as the man behind "Clean up Australia" and "Clean up the World". The Immigration bridge project is very proud of our ground breaking design, and the incorporation of an integrated solar roof, and look forward to sharing this passion for the environment with him.
Basil Sellers AM is one of Australia's most generous philanthropists. A successful businessman, he is also passionate about sport, especially cricket, and we look forward to sharing with him and all Australians, the lists that are to be published on the Bridge of sports men and women who have represented Australia at the highest level.
Han Tholstrup AM is one of Australia's great characters. A migrant from Denmark and great adventurer, Hans was the first man to drive a solar car across the continent. He then donated it to the National Museum, and has expressed a wish to drive it across the Bridge at the Opening Ceremony. Hans also wants to get in touch with any migrants from Greenland, as do we. According to the census, there are more than 700 Icelanders here, but no mention of Greenland. Can you help us in this quest??
Steve Doszpot Of Hungarian descent, Steve was Canberra Events Director for the Sydney Olympic Games Organising Committee (SOCOG). An active community member in Canberra, Stev is an Honorary Ambassador for the city. He is also a past president of Soccer Canberra and the ACT Olympic Council, and a former member of the boards of CanTrade (the ACT Government Advisory Board) and the Canberra Institute of Technology.
Ken Helm A 5th generation descendant of German vinedressers from the Rhineland who established vineyards near Albury and Rutherglen in the 1860s, Ken has been involved in the development of the National Wine Show, Cool Climate Wine Show, Wine Press Club of Canberra and in numerous promotional events for the Canberra region. Awarded by NSW Government in 1999 the Graham Gregory Trophy for a major contribution to the NSW Wine Industry. He instigated the International Riesling Challenge held at the Hyatt in Canberra in 2000. Ken was awarded the Wolf Blass Award in 2006 for contribution to the promotion of Riesling. Needless to say, Ken is passionate about the Immigration Bridge project, and its recording of Australia's migrant history.
